Caribou Artist in Residence

A few weeks ago, as the mountain air added a ting of fall, my friend, Dan Joder completed a week long Artist-in Residence as a photographer at Caribou Open Space. This a view of the cabin with its luxury outhouse.

This is a view from outside the cabin of the trail Gary and I took to visit Dan. it a winding trial with little elevation gain and a lovely surprise view from above of the cabin.  Even a person with a bad knee (me) can do it. Be sure not to leave you hiking stick there, though, like I did. I hope the future Artist-in-Residence participants use it and enjoy the hiking medallions. 

The cabin boasts an impressive solar set up that Gary was especially interested in since he used to build soar panels for a living back in the 80s. It's truly off the grid. 

Even at the very beginning of September, the colors we apparent.  I guess the experts agree that the colors are about a week early this year.  I can't wait to go back soon to see this spot in full Fall splendor. 

End of Summer beginning of Fall set us up for a curious dichotomy.  Where a glimmer of color seems appropriate given the cooler evenings and earlier sunsets, we tend to mourn the blazing summer rays and long days. Maybe that's just teachers in the summer.

The Scent of Wisconsin

I was met at my mother-in -law's garage door with the thick scent of, "What is that smell? Oh, it's intense moisture!" In the face of the unknown, I ventured into the lane that leads to the forest and this is some of what I smelled/saw.

Next, a ride up to Stony Mesa Winery where we tasted the new variety of Rose of Syrah. Dry with just a hint of sweetness.

Today's ride/shoot/blog started at the Impressionz Art Coop Gallery where I volunteered for the day to help with the Celebrate Cedaredge festival. So many talented artists in a great variety of media.

Stop Number 2 on the Cedaredge bike ride.  Apple orchards that are an original component of Colorado's Western Slope.

First Stop: Grand Mesa Vista on a early summer morning, so lovely!

Journey #2: ride from the Cederedge Country Cabins to the Impressionz Art Co-op Gallery.  Start with the lovely Country Cabin #3.  It was build in the early 1900s, but is totally modernized; my kind of place: rustic look with conveniences.

The unexpected in the Bolder Boulder

Let me introduce the best band in the Bolder Boulder for 2016: Tommy and the Tube Socks! they Rock!

We have marching Marines, Sky Divers, from each branch of service plus POWs, Very impressive especially for someone like me who was born 5 minutes before the 4th of July. America the Beautiful!

The Bolder Boulder ride/shoot included the expected and the unexpected.  First the unexpected: in the tree which was the only place I found to lock my cruiser, there was a very active Humming Bird. I waited for the little creature to land still in its nest and shot this image with my new Sony mirror-less A6000.

Today's holiday journey was the Bolder Boulder route.  It was a cruiser bike situation since I could look straight ahead for shot ideas and carry my camera in the basket.

Day One of Retirement

... I'm still doing what my boss told me to do: ride my bike and shoot some pics and blog about it. Journey # 1: 2.5 miles from my house along the Boulder Boulder route to the Folsom Stadium for the Memorial Day festivities.
